NAWADA: In a joint operation, Patna, Bakhtiarpur, Fatuha and Nawada police recovered stolen goods worth several lakhs from Makanpur under the Warisaliganj police station area in Nawada district on Monday.
The police team also arrested Madan Singh, his nephew Pramod Singh, Jitendra and Nitish (brother and son of Pramod, respectively).
Half a dozen armed criminals hijacked a private firm’s parcel van from Transport Nagar in Patna to Begusarai by getting its driver Bablu drugged on January 6 midnight.
However, gang leader Futaiya and shopkeeper Sagar of Warisaliganj bazaar (the receiver of the stolen goods) managed to escape.
Fatuha ASP (operations) Manish Kumar said Futaiya and his gang members overpowered the parcel van (BR 01GA 2931) driver, who belonged to Daniyawan block in Patna district.
Bablu reached Bakhtiyarpur at 1am and parked the van near a roadside eatery. Around 4am, Bablu was overpowered and drugged and he fell unconscious. The criminals tied Bablu’s hand and feet and threw him near Manjhwe hills on Nawada-Hisua road and unloaded the goods at Makanpur and kept in five different houses. Later, the van was abandoned near Mahindra showroom around 6am in Nawada town.
The ASP said the Futaiya gang was involved in illegal sand quarrying and had looted goods worth several crores from trucks in the past. A few drivers and cleaners were also killed in the loot process. Most of the consumer goods were bought at half the price by Sagar, he said.
Bharat Singh, the regional manager of the courier firm from Kolkata, said the GPS tracking system helped the police in finding out the stolen vehicle.
