ALLAHABAD: Bodies of two schoolgirls, reported missing from Sultanpur since Saturday, were on Monday found near Neema Gopalpur halt on Sultanpur-Varanasi railway tracks under the limits of Aspurdevsara police station of Pratapgarh district.
Police claim it to be a case of suicide on the basis of paper slips recovered from their school bags.
"The girls have left paper slips in their bags, appealing the police to send their bodies and bags to their families.
Initially, it seems to be a case of suicide but we are looking at it from all angles," police said adding that the Pratapgarh police has been informed.
The deceased have been identified as Archana Yadav (18), daughter of Shri Ram and Kavita Verma (17), daughter of Ram Lapat Vema and residents of Gosai Ka Purwa and Ghooripur in Sultanpur district respectively.
Senior police officers, including additional SP (Pratapgarh) along with forces of two police stations rushed to the spot and carried out investigations.
Additional SP (East) Avanish Kumar said, “We are conducting a thorough investigation. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.” He, however, said that the motive for the extreme step was still unknown.
“We are also probing as to how the girls, studying in XIIth standard in another district, reached the railway tracks and whether they committed suicide,” he added. Police said the girls were studying in Sarvodaya Inter College of Lambhua in Sultanpur and had left their houses on the pretext of appearing in practical examinations on Saturday.
When police contacted the family members, they too failed to provide any reason and claimed that both Kavita and Archana were fast friends and often used to stay at each other houses.
