Sitapur-Aishbagh railway section now a broad gauge

LUCKNOW: Sitapur will now be connected to Lucknow and other big cities through a broad gauge rail network and have mail and express trains available. On Wednesday, minister of state for railways Manoj Sinha inaugurated the broad gauge conversion of Sitapur-Aishbagh section, which has been thrown open to passengers. Along with three passenger trains, Gomtinagar-Gorakhpur Express has been extended to run on the renewed section.

The 88.2km long Sitapur-Aishbagh section is part of the 260km long Aishbagh-Pilibhit section conversion of which was approved in 2011-12. The conversion is being done in phases. Sitapur-Aishbagh section was converted into a broad gauge in the first phase at a cost of Rs 374 crore. The section has 14 stations, six Limited Height Subways (LHS) and 41 manned crossings enroute.
