SECUNDERABAD: Residents in several areas of southern part of Secunderabad Cantonment are facing acute water shortage for the past week. Maredpally and Karkhana are the most-affected areas. According to Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) water wing sources, nearly 110 residential colonies are not receiving water supply for the past week with over 15,000 taps in these areas drying up.
The reason, officials pointed out, was 48-hour supply shutdown initiated by HMWS&SB on January 8 and 9 to attend to power supply works and leakage in Krishna Drinking Water Supply pipelines.
Residents complain that SCB did not communicate about water supply shortage. “The SCB did not alert residents regarding no water supply for two days. As a result, we have been buying water cans for the past five days,” said Janapriya Reddy, a Marredpally resident.
“The Hyderabad Water Board is supplying 63 lakh gallons of water per day (LGPD) under ‘Bulk’ category, but due to 48-hour shutdown, only 30 LGPDs water has been received. Areas getting Krishna water supply are severely affected. The repair works were completed on Thursday and water supply will be restored by Thursday night,” SCB water wing superintendent, S Raj Kumar told TOI.
