NELLORE: Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for a new airport in the district at Dagadarthi village on Friday. The airport will be developed with a cost of nearly Rs 370 crore. The state government had already earmarked 1352 acres of land in Dagadarthi for the construction of the airport. The airport is being developed under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that his government has been working on improving the infrastructure in all the districts in order to achieve allround development of the state.
“Airports and ports are going to be growth engines of the state. We are readying 14 airports and 13 ports in the state in the next couple of years,” the chief minister said. He said that airport at Dagadarthi would be a boost to the development of local industries and creation of employment. “We have taken all the developmental projects including ports and airports in spite of non-cooperation from the Centre,” claimed the chief minister.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had ditched the state without granting Special Category Status (SCS) and funds required for development of infrastructure in the nascent state. He promised to complete Dagardarthi airport by 2020 and launch operations. District ministers Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, Dr P Narayana, district collector Mutyalaraju and legislators were present.
Interestingly, the chief minister recently laid foundation stone for the construction of new airport at Kuppam and inaugurated the newly developed airstrip in Orvakal of Kurnool district.
