Tea companies in The Nilgiris, the largest tea growing district in South India, have reported to the Tea Board that their production in calendar 2018 had risen 2.52 per cent over 2017.
December 2018 was a better cropping month in The Nilgiris because of higher temperature and less frost damage compared to December 2017.

This was more than the normal as measured by the 5-year mean for the month (1.44 mkg), marking a gain of 0.13 mkg or 15.12 per cent.
This saw tea companies produce 15.88 mkg in 2018 against 15.49 mkg in 2017.
