ALLAHABAD: The central hospital on the sprawling Kumbh compound has got an adorable mascot - a baby born in the makeshift but fully-equipped hospital and lovingly christened Prayagraj by the hospital staff and his parents.
The son of a daily wager couple, the birth of Prayagraj is being seen as an auspicious beginning to the Kumbh Mela central hospital. It was a regular day at the 100-bed hospital in Kumbh when Rajni, a daily wage worker, was rushed in pain.
Staff nurse Munni Devi left her lunch mid-way and rushed with her senior Hazlin Hanif, the sister-in-charge to prep up the operation theatre. The sudden activity drew attention of all doctors, nurses and patients in the temporary but full fledged hospital on the sprawling campus.

About 40 minutes later, Rajni was blessed with to a boy. As the news of the first birth in the Kumbh hospital spread, celebrations broke out among the staff.
The baby's father, a sanitary worker, was by his wife's side with the newborn son. "Shouldn't we name him Prayagraj?" somebody said. "Yes, that's perfect," said another.
"We couldn't have got a better name for our son. He was born on the pious land of Kumbh and we are fortunate. My wife and son are healthy, thanks to the doctors here," said Kallu, the proud father.

"This is mother Ganga's blessing to us," said Rajni.
"It was a day of celebration. Both mother and baby are healthy and safe. The staff sees it as an auspicious beginning of Kumbh hospital," said chief medical superintendent Dr Deepak Seth.
Rajni was given all benefits of Janani Suraksha Yojana and baby boy Prayagraj was vaccinated.
