NAVI MUMBAI: A day after three workers on contract with the railways were crushed to death under an express train in Raigad on Sunday evening, the police said that they hailed from Madhya Pradesh.
The deceased—Ashok Bare (30), Bhimsingh Gulkar (40) and Ajay Dandodiya (18)—all from Khargone district, said inspector Shailesh Gaikwad of Dadar Sagar police station. The three workers were hit by Tejas Express around 9.30 pm at Jite railway station in Pen taluka.

Prakash Suranjay, supervisor of the contracting firm which had employed the three said, “The families of the deceased will be awarded insurance money and compensation.” He said they were returning to their shanty after buying vegetables at a market on the other side of the railway tracks.
“A goods train was standing at the station and they may not have heard the sound of the fast-moving Tejas Express which ran over them, leading to their deaths on the spot,” said Suranjay.
The bodies were handed over to the relatives after a post-mortem was done on Monday. The bodies were later sent to their native place. An accidental death report has been filed.
A relative of Ashok Bare, Akal Singh said that Ashok stayed with his wife Sumitra and 8-year-old son. Bhimsingh stayed with his wife Durgadevi and Ajay was his nephew. They were to carry out track maintenance.
