Ahmednagar ex-mayor held for twin murders
Sandeep Kotkar
NASHIK: The criminal investigation department (CID) on Tuesday arrested former mayor of Ahmednagar, Sandeep Kotkar, in connection with the murder of two Shiv Sena activists at Kedgaon in Ahmednagar district in April 2018. Kotkar has been remanded in police custody till January 21.
Kotkar was taken into custody from the Nashik Road central jail, where he is serving a life term in connection with a 2008 murder case in Ahmednagar.

Ahmednagar superintendent of police Ranjan Sharma confirmed the arrest. “Sandeep Kotkar is one of the accused in the double murder case that took place at Kedgaon in April last year. The CID has arrested him to probe his role in the murder case. Kotkar is serving life imprisonment in connection with a murder case in 2008,” said Sharma.
Meanwhile, the SP also confirmed that Kotkar’s wife, Survana, is also absconding ever since the Kedgaon murder. She is a former deputy mayor of Ahmednagar. The CID would probe that too, he said.
On April 7, 2018, two Shiv Sena activists Vasant Thube and Sanjay Kotkar were brutally stabbed and then shot dead.
The double murder took place on the heels of Congress leader Vishal Kotkar winning the civic elections from ward 32 of (Kedgaon) of Ahmednagar Municipal Corporation. This seat was rendered vacant after Sandeep Kotkar was convicted in the 2008 murder case.
The CID, which is investigating twin murder case, has so far filed a chargesheet against eight accused – Sandeep Gunjal, Mahaveer Mokale, Ravindra Khollam, Sandeep Girhe, Vishal Kotkar, Bhanudas Eknath Kotkar, Bhanudas Mahadev Kotkar and Babasaheb Kedare. Bhanudas is out on bail.
During the investigation, the CID found out that Sandeep was in touch with his wife Suvarna and a few others before the murder. They suspected his role in the killing and have arrested him.
