Several cops injured in Araria village clash

ARARIA: Around half-a-dozen cops including a DSP were injured during a clash with an irate mob at Hingua village under Bhargama police station in Araria district on Wednesday.
Police forces had to take shelter in a PACS godown to save themselves from public wrath, who kept them chasing for not allowing them to construct a temple. Araria DM Himansh Sharma said on Wednesday police had to open 18 rounds of fire to save their lives to disburse the irate mob but the situation was fully under control.
“Round-the-clock vigil is being maintained by police an FIR against unknown persons has also been registered,” added the DM.
Araria district magistrate along with SP Dhurat Sayli Savlaram had rushed to the spot when the mob went out of control and chased the cops. The incident took place after a group of villagers, who wanted to organise Ashtayam Kirtan and construct a temple over a plot of government land were opposed by another group of villagers who wanted to use the land for some common purpose.
On getting information about the building up of tension between two groups of villagers, police reached there and ordered status quo, which was opposed the group of villagers who were bent upon constructing the temple. Police forces were, however, chased and compelled to take shelter in a PACS godown to save their lives. Some of the police officials reportedly got injured, including Forbesganj DSP Manoj Ram, who was sent to Purnia for treatment. Three homeguards jawans were also injured.
“No one has been arrested so far. The situation is under control and the district administration is making an effort to solve the the problem by constructing a community hall and not temple on the government land,” the DM said.
