Over 100 plastic units sealed in Delhi's Narela zone
NEW DELHI: Following the directions of Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority, North Delhi Municipal Corporation has sealed over 100 units in Narela zone targeting polluting factories/warehouses dealing in plastic waste. The waste generated by these factories has been a major reason behind highly polluting waste burning incidents in the region.
Units were located along the villages of Tikri Kalan, Mundka, Hirankudna, Neelwal, Nangloi, Kamruddin Nagar, Nilothi, Ghevra, Savdha and Madanpur Dabas.
“These units have been closed down after carrying out a survey of the entire area in the last few days. Besides this drive, the civic body has also lifted more than 9,000 metric tonnes of plastic waste, clearing about 983 bighas of land in the area,” said the spokesperson of the civic body, Yogender Singh Maan.
Another official said that the waste generated by these units doesn’t fall under the jurisdiction of the civic body and the Delhi government is responsible for it.
