Two employees of a cash-in-transit company in Louis Trichardt are expected to appear in the local magistrate’s court soon after they were arrested and R2,6 million in cash recovered at separate locations yesterday (Wednesday).
According to Provincial Police Communications Head, Motlafela Mojapelo the suspects are aged 30 and 40 and employed by the cash-in-transit company. The arrests were made during a joint operation at Ravele and Elim outside Louis Trichardt respectively.
Mojapelo indicated that the company had approached Police after a substantial amount of money went missing recently. A team of top officers conducted an operation characterised by relentless searches, probing and digging at different premises, according to Mojapelo.
Some of the cash was found buried underground while others were hidden in ice-cream buckets and refuse bags.
Mojapelo added that the suspects who are responsible for collecting cash from various sites allegedly, over a period of time, took the money instead of depositing it. One of the suspects had already bought a double cab bakkie which was also confiscated.
The suspects are facing charges of theft.
