A popular tea rooms named the best in the county has been put up for sale.
Business partners Andrea Britland and Chris Hood established Haslingden town centre’s Dearden Tea Rooms in 2014 and it has since attracted people from all over the country.
Andrea admitted the popularity of the business had come as a surprise, and said it had begun to take its physical toll on her health, meaning she and Chris have decided to hand over the reins.
Andrea, 45, reassured their customers that they remain open as usual.
She said: “We have built the business up from scratch and it’s something that we are very proud of.
“We have had four years of fantastic success which the awards along the way have proven. It took us a bit by surprise really.”
The Deardengate venue is known for its wizardry and witchcraft-themed interactive dining experiences, which have been running for two years.
Named best New Business at the 2015 Lancashire Tourism Awards, the venue won the Taste Lancashire Café/Tea Room award at the 2018 event.
Andrea added: “The success at the Lancashire Taste Awards was the icing on the cake. We have got customers and events still booked up to March and April. There’s a good, solid business here. Now’s the time to pass on the baton to somebody else.”
Andrea and Chris, 33, have appointed brokers to find a buyer, with a guide price of £149,950 plus £11,700 annual rent. The building has period features dating back to 1752.
In a statement, Blacks Business Brokers said: “The business, which has indoor seating for 79 and can accommodate a further 30 in its outdoor courtyard, generates annual turnover of £300,000. The premises also include a first-floor function room with seating for up to 35. The potential for this aspect of the business has, by Ms Britland’s admission, not yet been fully explored and could provide a significant additional income stream.”
