Guard kills self in Rohini school
NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old security guard of a government school in outer Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area allegedly committed suicide inside the school premises. This was after he was thrashed by the family of a youth who had allegedly kidnapped and raped his niece last October but was bailed out for being a minor.
The guard’s family said he had approached the court to urge it to reconsider the bail for rejection.

The family said that on Wednesday evening, the kin of the accused boy, who stay in the same locality, had a tiff with the guard and dragged him out of the house. They thrashed him publicly following which he slipped into depression.
“We came to know about this matter later at night and appropriate legal action was taken against the accused. We are probing the reasons due to which he had committed suicide,” said DCP (outer) Gaurav Sharma.
Family members said after the attack, the guard went to work at the school and hanged himself with a rope in the guard room. The body was discovered by his elder brother who also works at the guard post during the day.
No suicide note was recovered from the site, but police were scanning his cellphone to find out if he had been instigated by someone to take his life.
The family said the guard was being threatened by the brothers of the accused for the past few weeks. “My brother was very close to our niece and has been spending his savings on getting her educated. He even got her admitted to a private school for this. The rape had shaken him already. He had been pursuing the case and paying for all the expenses on his own,” said the brother.
The guard was pressured by that family to withdraw his appeal.
