PATNA: Nawada DM Kaushal Kumar on Thursday issued show cause notices to the authorities of Nawada Sadar Hospital after images and a video of stray dogs leisurely resting on patient beds went viral on social media on Wednesday.
“The notice was issued to civil surgeon (incharge) Dr Umesh Chandra, medical deputy superintendent Dr Ramnandan Prasad and health manager Mohammad,” said the DM.

The DM added the hospital authorities have been asked to reply to the show cause notices within two days. “The matter was brought to my notice on Thursday. Strict action will be taken against the hospital if the videos turn out to be genuine,” he said.
The video shows several stray dogs roaming around the hospital premises and occupying the beds. In one of the images, two dogs are seen lazing on the hospital bed.
The civil surgeon has, however, refuted the charges, saying attempts were being made to tarnish the image of the hospital by exaggerating the matter. “Somebody has mischievously circulated the image on social media. We have set up a committee to probe the matter,” Dr Chandra told this newspaper over the phone from Nawada, adding he has asked the guards of the hospital to keep dogs away from the premises.
Dr Ramnandan said someone circulated the “fake” images on social media to settle a personal score. “I have not seen any canine entering the hospital premises. The question of dogs occupying the bed does not arise,” he added.

There are 70 beds in the hospital in outdoor patient department, emergency ward and three more departments – gynaecology, healthcare and de-addiction. The hospital has 20 doctors, 50 nurses, 10 auxiliary nurse midwives and 10 guards.
Meanwhile, leader of opposition in state assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has slammed the state government over the issue. “A bizarre picture of Nawada Sadar Hospital in Bihar has been viral, where patients do not get beds but dogs are resting. The MPs of the union ministry have been busy sending Indians to Pakistan and the state health minister is busy with the world tour (sic),” Tejashwi tweeted.
