MUZAFFARPUR: Saran police recovered the body of Sarthak (7) from the bushes behind the JP University building under the Town police station area in Chhapra on Thursday.
Sarthak, who was the nephew of Chhapra-based medical practioner Dr Sajal Kumar, had gone missing on January 15 from Telpa Adda Chowk area in the town. He had gone there to buy kites. His parents had lodged an FIR with the Town police station the same day.
An SIT was formed after the FIR to nab the criminals.
A police source said seven persons were arrested from different locations over a couple of days, but they did not confess to their involvement in the crime.
Saran SP Har Kishore Rai said his parents identified the body on the basis of Sarthak’s clothes. “The reason behind his death will be ascertained only in the autopsy report,” he said.
However, a senior police officer preferring anonymity said, “The boy was strangled. Some strangulation marks were apparent on the body.”
Meanwhile, the medical fraternity condemned the gruesome killing and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. They have also threatened to launch an agitation if police failed to nab the criminals at the earliest. (With inputs from HK Verma in Chhapra)
