Guntur collector Sasidhar receives Election Commission award
GUNTUR: In a rare feat, district collector Kona Sasidhar has bagged the prestigious best electoral practices award from the Election Commission of India (ECI). Sasidhar along with his team officials has set the national record by enrolling 50000 young voters in a single day in the district.
Governor ESL Narasimhan presented the award to the district collector on the occasion of National Voters Day (NVD) in Vijayawada on Friday.
Governor lauded the initiative of Sasidhar saying that enrolment of young voters in such a massive number was a good sign for strengthening the democratic system.
AP Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gopalakrishna Dwivedi said that district administration headed by Sasidhar had taken several measures to improve the voters’ enrolment in the district.
He added that Guntur district administration took up the voters' registration campaign through innovative methods including the usage of hot-air balloons, para-gliders to rope in the youth.
He said that they had set up special desks in all the engineering colleges and perfectly implemented their plans to register 50000 voters in a single day. "Now, it is the responsibility of the youth to exercise their franchise in the next elections to elect the new government. The job of the youth was not over just by getting registered as voter," Sasidhar said.
He added that youth should play role in electing a responsible government since youth would play crucial role in building the nation.
