Second phase of gram panchayat polls today

Process would begin at 7 a.m. and come to an end at 1 p.m.

As part of the second phase of gram panchayat elections, polling and counting for 140 sarpanches and 901 ward members in Yellareddy revenue division would be held on Friday . Out of the total 192 gram panchayats and 1,622 wards 52 sarpanches and 721 ward members were elected unopposed.

According to Collector N. Satyanarayana, 432 candidates for sarpanch posts and 2,159 for ward member posts are in the fray. Over 1.39 lakh voters are expected to cast their vote in the current round in the district. Polling would begin at 7 a.m. and come to an end at 1 p.m. From 2 p.m. onwards counting would be taken up and election of vice-president would also be over the same day. Webcasting would be done in 20 gram panchayats and 45 videographers would film the polling process, he said after inspecting the election distribution center at Nagireddipet mandal headquarters on Thursday.

While there are 190 villages in the second phase in Sangareddy district, elections to 52 were unanimous and hence polling will be held for 138 panchayats. Similarly, 172 panchayats would be going for polls in Siddipet district as 19 panchayats became unanimous from a total of 191 panchayats. In Medak district polling will be held for 130 panchayats out of the total 170 as 40 panchayats were unanimous.

As many as 366 gram panchayats in old united Adilabad district will go to poll on Friday in the second phase of Panchayat election. Already, election in 123 panchayats was unanimous.

The largest number of 65 contestants declared elected unanimously was in Adilabad district while 25 of them were elected unanimously in Nirmal, 19 in Kumram Bheem Asifabad and 14 in Mancherial. All arrangements for the election are in place according to officials

In Adilabad district, where the largest number of 149 gram panchayats will see election has 1,18,825 voters..
