Modi in Madurai: Protesters wave black flags, release black balloons as PM lands in city

Members of various outfits opposing 10% reservation for economically weaker sections in general category took part in a black flag protest as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrived here to lay the foundation stone of All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIM). The protest took place at Periyar Bus Terminal in the heart of the city, located 10km away from PM’s programme venue.

MADURAI: Members of various outfits opposing 10% reservation for economically weaker sections in general category took part in a black flag protest on Sunday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrived here to lay the foundation stone of All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIM). The protest took place at Periyar Bus Terminal in the heart of the city, located 10km away from PM’s programme venue.

MDMK leader Vaiko led the protest. The protesters released black balloons around the time Modi landed here. They raised slogans against the Prime Minister for acting against the interest of Tamil Nadu.
The protesters refused to disperse when police instructed them to do so and continued with the protest.
Modi arrived here around 11.30am. Later, at a function in Mandela Nagar, he laid the foundation stone of AIIMS. He will also take part in a public meeting to kick start BJP’s election rally in Tamil Nadu.
