The Warriors' defensive stocks appear to have been bolstered, with new signing Leeson Ah Mau coming in third in the NRL's list of most effective tacklers.

Ah Mau, 29, will return to the Warriors in the new NRL season, having been with the St George-Illawarra Dragons since 2012, playing 145 first-grade games.

In a statistical breakdown made by the NRL, Ah Mau was found to be among the best defensive players in the game, making 570 tackles in the 2018 season, a success rate of 94.6 per cent.

Ah Mau isn't the only Warriors forward on the list, however. The versatile Bunty Afoa has also found himself in the top 10, with 548 tackles at a success rate of 94.2 per cent.

Wests Tigers' Alex Twal took out top spot, with an impressive 598 tackles at 95.2 per cent, while Cronulla prop Ava Seumanufagai was in second with 94.7 per cent. However, he only made 208 tackles, among the lowest in the top 10.
