₹ 1,878 crore to be spent on Karimnagar Smart City

The State government was taking all measures to encourage tourism in Karimnagar town and taking up various developmental works as part of the Smart City project at a cost of ₹ 1,878 crore, said Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad.

Speaking after unfurling the national flag as part of the 70th Republic Day celebrations at the Police Parade Grounds in Karimnagar town on Saturday, the Collector said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao had allocated ₹ 347 crore for the beautification of all the roads in the town. The IT towers were coming up at a cost of ₹ 25 crore at Ujwala park, he said and added that the Haritha Hotel was also coming up on the shores of LMD reservoir to attract tourists.

He said that work on the Telangana state’s first cable-stayed bridge taken up at a cost of ₹ 183 crore across the river Manair on the outskirts of Karimnagar town was fast progressing. He said that they were converting all the existing single roads into double roads and the double roads into four-lanes at a cost of ₹ 148.30 crore.

With regard to the increase of institutional deliveries in the government hospitals, he said that the Karimnagar district tops in the distribution of 12,914 KCR kits to the patients. He said that they would provide protected drinking water through tap connections to all the households in the district under Mission Bhageeratha programme by March this year.

Listing out various welfare programmes launched by the government, he said that the government had released Rs 45.34 crore for the construction of 11 check-dams in Huzurabad segment and one check-dam in Karimnagar assembly segment.

Rains dampen spirits

Earlier, braving incessant weather, the Collector along with Commissioner of Police VB Kamalasan Reddy reviewed and inspected the police parade. Later, they felicitated that freedom fighters on the occasion. Following the rains, the cultural programmes were shifted to the Police auditorium and the distribution of appreciation certificate awards was conducted at the Collectorate auditorium in the town.

Assets worth Rs 22.48 disbursed

On this occasion, the Collector distributed assets worth Rs 22.48 crore to various beneficiaries including Rs 10 crore bank linkage assistance to 1260 women SHG members. MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao, Karimnagar legislator Gangula Kamalakar, Joint Collector G. V. Shyam Prasad Lal, trainee IAS officers Praveenya and Rajarsha and others were present.
