Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation has opened four direct procurement centres (DPCs) in the district to procure paddy at a remunerative price directly from the farmers.

The DPCs have been opened at Seithur and Devadanam in Rajapalayam Taluk and Watrap and Kansapuram under Srivilliputtur taluk.

The fine quality paddy would be procured at a rate of ₹1,840 a quintal (minimum support price - ₹1,770 and incentive - ₹70) and the common grade paddy at the rate of ₹1,800 a quintal (MSP ₹1,750 and incentive ₹50), the Collector, A. Sivagnanam, said in a statement.

The money for the procured paddy would be deposited in the bank accounts of the farmers through electronic clearance service.

Farmers have been advised to clean the paddy and ensure that the moisture content was less than 17 %.

Farmers can benefit by selling their paddy to TNCSC instead of getting lower remuneration for their produce while selling them to private traders.

The Regional Manager of TNCSC R. Paulpandi said that the DPCs would function between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Electronic weighing machines were being used at the DPCs for accuracy, he added.

Further details about the DPCs can be obtained over phone number 04562-252607 and 94421-32016, the statement added.
