Congress netas clamour for Priyanka Gandhi rallies
HYDERABAD: Congress leaders aspiring to contest the ensuing Lok Sabha elections want Priyanka Gandhi to address at least three public meetings in Telangana.
Towards this end, they are all set to write letters to the party leadership to include Telangana in the election campaign itinerary of Priyanka. Congress leaders said KCR's federal front has failed to materialise and that it is only a national party like the Congress that can form the government at the Centre and ensure more Central funds for Telangana.
“Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi’s campaign during recent Assembly elections in Telangana had lifted the spirits of Congress party workers and cadre.
Now, if Priyanka Gandhi too visits the State and addresses public meetings ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, it will further encourage the party workers to go all out to seek votes for us and make Rahul Gandhi the prime Minister,” said Telangana Congress treasurer Gudur Narayan Reddy.
Gudur is the front runner for the Bhongir Lok Sabha seat and said he too will write to the party leadership to ensure that Priyanka tours Telangana during the Lok Sabha campaign. “People have given their mandate to KCR in the Assembly elections. Now, it is their turn to give their vote to Congress to form the government at the Centre as regional parties like TRS would not be in a position to lead the government at the Centre. Federal front has remained on paper,” he said.
AICC spokesperson Dasoju Sravan said the coming of Priyanka will send a strong message among the youth and women. “The KCR-led TRS has done injustice to women. There was not a single woman in the KCR’s cabinet in the previous government and even this time, KCR is running the show without a women minister till date. Priyanka Gandhi’s visit will give a lot of hope to the women that there is a leader at the national level to think about their welfare,” he said.
AICC secretary V Hanumanth Rao who is seeking the ticket from Khammam Lok Sabha seat said the people of Telangana have a special place in their hearts for Indira Gandhi who had successfully contested from Medak in 1980. “Priyanka resembles Indira Gandhi. Her campaign in Telangana will do a lot of good to the Congress party. Rahul Gandhi is going to be the next Prime Minister and will implement every promise made by Priyanka Gandhi during her visit to Telangana,” he said.
