A fourth year mechanical engineering student of the Indian Institute Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H), died after jumping from the seventh floor of a building on Thursday night. The incident came to light on Friday.

Circle Inspector of Sangareddy (Rural) Shiva Kumar said the student identified as M. Anirudhya (21), a native of Tenali in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, jumped from the seventh floor around 12.30 a.m. Before taking the extreme step, he sent a mail to fellow student, Kansik Reddy, that he was committing suicide but not in depression.

Investigation revealed that Anirudhya had used anti-depressants and also consulted a psychiatrist recently.

After being administered first aid, he was shifted to Balaji Hospital and from there to government hospital where he was declared brought dead. Anirudhya suffered a serious head injury, resulting in his death. Inquest was conducted and the body was handed over to his parents.
