  • Former Madhya Pradesh Police chief Rishi Kumar Shukla was on Saturday appointed the chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a fixed tenure of two years. Here is all you need to know about the new head of the agency:
* Shukla is a 1983-batch IPS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre.
* He is currently serving as the chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation.
* Prior to that, he was the Madhya Pradesh DGP during the BJP government in the state.
* Shukla is known for ensuring quick investigations into cases of rape in the state during his tenure as the police chief, leading to a substantial decrease in the heinous crime.

* A post-graduate in Philosophy and a native of Gwalior, Shukla ensured that chargesheets in criminal cases were filed at the earliest to ensure timely start of trial so that delay in delivery of justice could be minimised, officials said.
* After passing out from the National Police Academy, Shukla served in Raipur, Damoh, Shivpuri and Mandsaur districts in different capacities, before taking over as DGP.
* He underwent training in the USA for crisis management and hostage negotiations, besides another stint of training in London.

* He was the first chief of MP police to have an official twitter handle though some of his subordinates were active on personal accounts.
* During his tenure as DGP MP, he had chalked out a major reform strategy to identify corrupt police officials. As many as 169 policemen were dismissed from service due to disciplinary reasons under him.
* He was in the Intelligence Bureau where he handled several sensitive matters.
