NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old was stabbed to death by three goons as he tried to intervene in a fight between them and a shopkeeper at Avantika housing complex in Rohini in the wee hours of Saturday.
The criminals, one of whom was the son of a policeman, was trying to force a paan shop owner to open his shop around midnight and serve them paan, while they consumed alcohol in a car. When the shop owner refused, they thrashed him and snatched his mobile phone.
Seeing this, Rajat Chaudhary tried to intervene but was attacked with knives.
Local residents protested at the Rohini police station on Saturday morning, demanding arrest of the killer with some of them accusing the cops of siding with the accused. The accused were arrested later in the day.
The incident was reported at 1am, when Chaudhary was taken to the Jaipur Golden hospital in Rohini. Additional PRO, Delhi Police, Anil Mittal said the argument started after the victim confronted the accused for abusing the pan shop owner, Vipin.
Preliminary probe revealed that Chaudhary, a resident of block-C, went out along with two friends to get cold drinks after dinner. When they reached the pan shop nearby, Vipin ran towards Chaudhary complaining about a group of youths who had snatched his mobile phone and the keys of his scooter. Chaudhary and his friends — Vicky and Jatin — reached the shop and asked the accused — Gaurav, Sachin and Prince — to back off.

This sparked an argument between Gaurav and Chaudhary during which, Gaurav pulled out a knife and stabbed Chaudhary on his chest. Gaurav then boasted about knowing powerful people and left. Chaudhary’s friends informed his family members and rushed Chaudhary to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Police said that Chaudhary owned a mobile repairing shop in the locality.
