2,000 drivers selected for free training in Aurangabad

PATNA: The state transport department has selected at least 2,000 drivers from across the state to impart free training to them at the Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) in Aurangabad.
Transport minister Santosh Kumar Nirala made the announcement at an event, christened ‘Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha’, which was organized at the Adhiveshan Bhawan to mark the beginning of the 30th Road Safety Week.

“Imparting free training to drivers of heavy vehicles every year will help reduce the number of accidents which occur on national highways,” the minister said and assured financial assistance to the stakeholders involved.
Nirala also unveiled the logo of the Bihar Road Safety Council on the occasion.
Addressing the event, transport secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said eye check-up camps would be organized for heavy vehicle drivers in all districts and free spectacles distributed among them during the Road Safety Week.
“We will select ambassadors in different colleges of the state to create awareness about road safety measures and the impact of rash driving,” Agarwal said.
The transport secretary also talked about the train accident in Hajipur and thanked the locals for their quick response which saved many lives. “The first hour after any accident is a crucial period. If the victims are given proper medical treatment, their chances of being saved increase,” he claimed.
Prominent among those who attended the function were DIG (home guard) Pankaj Kumar, Bihar State Disaster Management Authority vice-chairman Vyasji, ADG (CID) Vinay Kumar, NCC brigadier Praveen Kumar, traffic SP P N Mishra and All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences-Patna director Dr P K Singh.
