‘Outsider’ at Malda Cong helm after 18 years
Malda: After 18 long years, on Tuesday, the leadership of Malda Congress shifted from the Ghani Khan Choudhury family after MLA Mostak Alam was declared the new district president.
This will come as a sh-ock to Kotwali family members and especially MP Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury (Dalu), who had faced the wrath of Congress leaders after Mausam Noor left the party to join TMC.
Noor, MP of Malda North and niece of former railway minister Ghani Khan Choudhury, was the district president.
AICC issued a statement on Tuesday declaring the list of district presidents. Signed by general secretary K C Venugopal, the press release also declared MLA Bhupendra Halder and senior leader Kalisadhan Roy as working presidents.
AICC’s Malda observer Md Javed confirmed the list. However, he did not wa-nt to see the development as ‘removal of Dalu’ as “Daluda is working president of PCC. How can he be the district president?” Alam said: “I’ve talked to Daluda and will meet him tomorrow.”
At a meeting on Saturday, a number of Congress leaders had attacked Dalu over Noor’s defection. Alam had also questioned the manner in which Dalu’s son Isha was announced as MP candidate by PCC.
“With Mousam joining TMC, the Kotwali family’s credibility is being questioned. Is there no able leader outside the family?” a Congress leader said.
