Suspected drunk driver crashes Chevy Camaro into Wayne Township fire truck

A man was taken to jail and his Chevy Camaro was taken to an impound lot early Sunday morning after Wayne Township officials said he crashed into the back of a fire truck while intoxicated.

According to Capt. Mike Pruitt of the Wayne Township Fire Department, the incident happened shortly after 6 a.m. near Rockville Road and I-465.

Pruitt said officials had received a call to check on an unconscious person sitting in a vehicle.

When crews arrived and approached the black Camaro to check on the driver, the man suddenly woke up and sped away, Pruitt said.

The Camaro then slammed into the back of Wayne Township Fire Engine 83, Pruitt said.

No injuries were reported, and the driver was arrested by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers on suspicion of driving under the influence.
