MALDA: The Bengali question paper was leaked and went viral on the social media minutes after the exam started on Tuesday. It is believed the question paper was somehow leaked from the Kaliachak area and a racket of private schools is behind such activity.
According to Madhyamik guidelines, the question papers are handed over to examinees at 11.45am, around 15 minutes before the exam starts.
The copies are handed over at noon and the question ideally should not come out before 3pm, when the exam ends. But the Bengali question paper went viral well before noon on Tuesday.
Following the leakage of question papers in last few years, the Board of Secondary Education had taken a few measures this time. One government official was deputed as the venue supervisor in each of the schools. Besides, the question paper packets were supposed to be opened in front of the examinees and not at the school office. Moreover, the media was strictly barred from exam venues. Restriction on mobile phones also got stricter as the teachers, too, were barred from carrying phones on school campuses.
District inspector of school (secondary) Tapas Biswas denied the leakage, saying: "There was no such incident in Malda. It might have leaked from elsewhere." He, however, conceded that a lot of mobile phones were seized from examinees despite a strict vigil. District magistrate Koushik Bhattacharya promised to look into the allegation.
Last year, the physical science question paper was leaked before the exam. A section of private schools in Kaliachak and Baishnabnagar were suspected to be a part of the racket.
