Two die, several suffer burn injuries in idol immersion procession in Ballia
All injured youths were taken to local hospital where doctors referred serious injured persons to district hospital
VARANASI: At least two youths were killed while over 10 others suffered burn injuries when a steel pipe of their tractor came in contact with high tension wire during Saraswati idol immersion procession near Purvi Bhavan Tola village under Bairiya police station in Ballia district on Wednesday late afternoon.
DIG Azamgarh range Vijay Bhushan confirmed killing of two youths in this incident. He said that all injured youths were rushed by police with the help of locals to hospital for proper treatment.
After the end of Saraswati Puja celebration in their village the youths of Purvi Bhavan Tola village boarded the idol on a beautifully decorated tractor trolley.
On other tractor trolley they tied loudspeakers with steel rods to play music. Later, their immersion procession moved towards river Ganga bank.
However, after travelling few kilometers only the steel rods containing loudspeakers came in contact with high tension wire. While Mayank Singh (18) and Chhotu Kumar Singh (20) died on the spot, other youths including Chandan Singh (18), Krishna (17), Golu Singh (18), Anand Singh (22) and Rajnish Singh (20) suffered serious burn injuries. All the equipments and articles kept on this tractor trolley also gutted in this incident.
Bairiya cops and locals rushed all injured youths to local hospital where doctors referred serious injured persons to district hospital. In view of sharp deterioration in the condition of Rajnish doctors at district hospital referred him to trauma center of BHU in Varanasi.
