Pulwama terror attack: Gopalganj youth arrested for sedition over anti-national post

PATNA: A 20-year-old youth in Bihar's Gopalganj district was arrested by police under charges of sedition on Friday after he allegedly made an anti-national post on a social media platform on the deadly Pulwama terror attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy which resulted the into death of 40 security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
Gopalganj SP Rashid Zaman while talking to TOI over phone said that the youth was identified as Mazhar Hashmi and the cellphone used by him for making the post on a social media platform was also seized.
“He is a native of Bhanpur Siripur village under Phulwaria police station area in the district and was arrested from the same village,” he said.
Zaman said that someone had sent a viral screenshot of Hashmi’s post on his official cellphone number at around 10.15am after which the youth was tracked down in less than five hours and was arrested. Zaman himself camped at the village soon after the youth was tracked by police and prepared to arrest him.
Meanwhile, Phulwaria police station SHO Prem Prakash Roy said the accused was presently writing ongoing intermediate examination for second consecutive years. “He had recently returned to Gopalganj from Patna where he was preparing for competitive examinations,” the SHO said.
Hashmi’s social media account was later found to be deactivated when searched. Several Gopalganj youths had tagged him on their posts for writing the anti-national contents on social platform.
