Weeklong training prog on bee-keeping launched at CAU

Integrated Bee-keeping Development Centre, Directorate of Extension Education Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Manipur, launched a seven day bee-keeping training programme under the theme 'Scientific methods of beekeeping for the doubling farmers' income' at CAU conference hall today.
The opening ceremony of the training programme was attended by CAU Imphal, Manipur, Vice-Chancellor Professor M Premjit, CAU Imphal Dean in-charge Professor Y Jekendra and CAU Director of Instruction Dr S Basanta and Integrated Bee-Keeping Development Centre CAU Imphal Dr KI Singh as the presidium members.
Speaking at the event, CAU VC M Premjit appealed all participants of the training programme to properly absorb and take in all the knowledge shared by the experts during the seven days bee-keeping training programme.
He stressed on the importance of the fanners to generate employment or income by means of rearing bees.
CAU has been providing necessary training to the farmers when it comes to bee-keeping and till date, around 500 to 550 farmers have been provided necessary training, he added.
He then explained that if a farmer decides to adopt beekeeping, it is imperative for him or her to cultivate proper fields containing various kinds of vegetables, specially mustards.
He then informed that steps are being taken up to cultivate mustard in over 300 pari of fields at Kakching and Yairipok.
Cautioning against the uses of pesticides when it comes to bee-keeping, the CAU VC further urged all the participants to produce the best quality honey as well.
