KOLAR: A five-year-old male leopard was trapped in a cage near Karadaguriki village, 30km from Malur, Kolar, early on Friday morning.
According to forest department sources, there have been several complaints from locals about the presence of leopard in the hills around Tekal village.
Based on the complaints, the forest department officials kept cages at four locations in and around the forests and hills of Tekal two weeks ago.
The authorities have been shifting these cages from place to place based on the information available about the presence of leopards.
KP Dhanalakshmi, range forest officer, said, “The cages were kept owing to pressure from villagers in a bid to trap the leopard and save humans. The villagers have persistently been complaining about the leopard, which at times had eaten their livestock.”
The animal caught on Friday would be relocated as per directions of superior officials in the department, said the officer, adding that foresters have put up cages in a few more places as villagers were apprehensive about the presence of more leopards in the area.
