Norwich have been holed up in hotels this week – but that is no bad thing for Tom Trybull.

Midfielder Trybull has made full use of the Canaries’ decision to stay in the north west between their Preston and Bolton clashes to catch up with his studies and reading.

Trybull left Germany with “not the highest education” having had to prioritise football over his schooling as a youngster at Hansa Rostock.

Keen to make up for what he missed out on, Trybull has enrolled on an online course in football management - about the business around the game rather than coaching - which he is working through while also trying to help Norwich come top of the class in the Championship.

“My wife influenced me a lot,” Berlin-born Trybull said of Anna, who also encouraged him to move to Norwich in August 2017 having lived abroad herself previously in America.

“She said you have to do something besides football, and start as early as possible.

“You never know what will happen or when so it is important you’re prepared for the future.

“What she said was a big impact for me. It was also in my mind when I was younger. I knew the age would come when you have to think about it.”

Trybull’s current book of choice is The Secret, a popular read all about the law of attraction and making your thoughts become reality.

He said: “You get another view on life. Also, then, because you realise it is not only football in life you can focus on other things.

“Like Wednesday’s result [a 3-1 defeat] against Preston. You say ‘OK, it happened’ and keep going.

“You’re not dwelling too long on this situation but thinking positively about what is coming to try and influence that as much as possible in a positive way. I never thought like that before reading this book.”

The shock Preston loss led to Norwich being replaced as leaders by Leeds but former Germany youth international Trybull said: “We are in a very good situation but it changes from game to game.

“All the teams at the top are doing well and it is close. Nothing is decided at the moment.”
