PATNA: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday gave a gift of 49 schemes worth Rs 664 crore to Purnia region besides inaugurating new building of Purnia Engineering College during a building construction department’s (BCD) event organised in the college premises at the divisional headquarters.
CM also inaugurated a regional centre of the Bihar Madrasa Education Board on this occasion. The regional centre would cater to the needs of people from Purnia, Kosi and Bhagalpur regions.
Speaking on the occasion, CM said earlier Purnia used to be considered as a ‘backward region’ in all aspects.
Roads, health facilities and educational institutions were in very bad shape. But today, situation has entirely changed.

“Once the facility of an engineering college will be available in each district, the youths of Bihar will not require to go to other states for studying engineering,” Nitish said. He also asserted that his government was working for development of all sectors under its ‘Saat Nischay” (seven resolves) programme.
CM also laid foundation stones for a scheme to provide safe drinking water in altogether 449 wards in Purnia region.
