Kris Boyd was targeted by coin throwing thugs as he warmed up for Kilmarnock against Celtic at Rugby Park this afternoon.

The veteran Killie striker is the latest figure to be struck by a missile from the crowd this season after incidents involving former Hibs boss Neil Lennon against Hearts and Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos at St Mirren.

Boyd was limbering up at the side of the Rugby Park pitch next to the away support when a coin struck him on the arm. The 35-year-old was also on the end of abuse from Celtic end throughout the match.

The former Rangers striker has been embroiled in a number of disputes with Celtic fans this season after he claimed at the start of the season that there was a split in the Hoops' dressing room.

Kris Boyd warms up at the side of the pitch.

Boyd was taunted by Hoops supporters as he sat on the bench in his side's 5-1 thrashing at Parkhead in December.

One supporter could be heard leaning over to shout at Boyd: "Kris, how's then dressing room split looking for you now?"

Former Scotland star James McFadden hit out at the perpetrator of this afternoon's incident, telling Sky Sports: "It's unacceptable, Kris has got his opinions and that's fine.

"But if you want to give him sticks that's fine.

"He's a grown man, he likes to give it out and he can take it but to throw coins, there's no place for it."
