RAJKOT: The fear of losing her husband, an Indian Army jawan, become so overpowering that a woman committed suicide in Khambhaliya town of Devbhoomi Dwarka district late on Saturday night.
The woman Meenakshi Jethwa (22) was found hanging from the ceiling fan by her husband Bhupendrasinh Jethwa at their house in Yogeshwarnagar locality of the town.
Jethwa is posted in Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). A brief questioning of the bereaved family members revealed that Jethwa had recently come home on leave.
“We were told that he had a close shave in an avalanche that hit the region,” said sources in Khambhalia police station.
“Meenakshi was already apprehensive after Jethwa had a lucky escape in the avalanche. Meanwhile, terror struck Pulwama where 44 CRPF men were martyred. This made her even more anxious,” said KN Jadeja, woman sub-inspector, investigating the case.
Bhupendrasinh and Meenakshi were married two years ago. She fervently requested her husband not to resume his duty. However, as the leave period was ending, Jethwa insisted that he had to go and rejoin duty.
“On Saturday night, when Jethwa and his family members returned home after attending a social function, he found his room upstairs locked. Thinking that Meenakshi must have gone to sleep inside, he decided not to disturb her and slept on the ground floor. On Sunday morning, when Meenakshi did not open her room, Bhupendrasinh got anxious and forced it open, only to find her hanging from the ceiling fan,” said Jadeja.
Police have not been able to record statements of the family members as they were extremely traumatized by her suicide.
