NEW DELHI: An over speeding Bentley Bentayga SUV allegedly rammed into an autorickshaw killing one woman from Turkmenistan and injuring two other women and the auto driver in Chanakya Puri area on Monday. The SUV was being driven by the nephew of killed industrialist Ponty Chadha.

All the three women are from Turkmenistan. The accused has been arrested, said the police.

The accident took place around 1 pm when the dark blue SUV entered Vinay Marg in Chanakyapuri. Eye-witnesses told police that the car was being driven at a speed of around 150 km/hr.

“An autorickshaw was standing on the roadside of the zebra crossing at the traffic signal. The speeding SUV came from behind and tried to apply brakes but rammed into the auto, hit a tree and later collided with the traffic signal. Under the impact of the accident, the auto was crumpled. The front of the SUV was completely damaged,” eye-witnesses said.

The driver of the Bentley was caught by people and handed over to the police. He has been identified as Ashis Chadha (19), the nephew of liquor baron Ponty Chadha who was killed in 2012, the police said. “Ashis was being beaten up by the people when police reached the spot. He was detained and brought to the police station. Later, he was arrested under Sections 279 and 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code,” Madhur Verma, deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi district) said.

At the time of the accident, two policemen from Punjab were following the luxury sedan in an escort vehicle as security. Police confirmed that Ashis was not drunk when the accident took place. Prima facie suggests that over speeding was the reason behind the accident.

“The injured were rushed to the trauma centre and later shifted to RML hospital. Gulshan (51) was declared brought dead, Almah (33) had multiple fractures, Gulyan (55) received fractures in her arms and hand,” police said.
