Acclaimed animated film set for China release

THE award-winning Japanese animated fantasy film “Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms” will hit the theaters across China on February 22.

The film garnered the Best Animation Award at last year’s Shanghai International Film Festival. It has been nominated for this year’s 91st Academy Awards, which will be held on February 24.

Directed by Mari Okada, the film is centered on the growth and extraordinary emotional connection between a young Iorph girl Maquia and a human orphan Ariel. It is a touching tale of growth, love and solitude.

In addition to its in-depth portrayal of delicate emotions, the film also boasts high artistry and visually stunning scenes.

The promoters of the film recently held several pre-screenings in major cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. It has received acclaims from both audience and critics.

Where to watch: Yonghua Cinema, Wanda Cinemas, Shanghai Film Art Center, Peace Cinema, Cathay Theater, Grand Theater, Stellar Cinema City, Studio City Cinema, Palace Cinema
