LUCKNOW: Former chairman and managing director of Uttar Pradesh
Power Corporation, (UPPCL) AP Mishra is likely to be the SP-BSP alliance candidate from Gonda parliamentary constituency, challenging BJP's
Kirti Vardhan Singh, the incumbent MP. Mishra retired about two years ago.
Mishra, who belongs to
Gonda district, served in key positions in both Samajwadi Party and
Bahujan Samaj Party regimes.
Sources said Mishra has already begun campaigning in Gonda, where as an engineer he has been involved in development works by rebuilding the dilapidated school where he had studied.
Despite being dominated by Brahmins, this constituency has not seen a
Brahmin MP for long and this is what the SP leadership maybe banking on in considering Mishra as a probable candidate from Gonda from where former Union minister and Congress leader
Beni Prasad Verma had won in 2009. Verma has now returned to Samajwadi Party and is a
Rajya Sabha member.
