Who you gonna call? Calgary, apparently.

While details are still sparse, it appears that Ghostbusters 3 will be filmed in Calgary.

Damian Petti, head of the film workers union IATSE 212, confirmed late Wednesday afternoon that the Jason Reitman-shot sequel has been confirmed to shoot in the city, although no other details were available. The comedy is expected to be released in the summer of 2020.

“Local 212 can confirm we’ve spoken to Sony and they intend to bring Ghostbusters 3 to Calgary. No dates have been announced,” said Petti.

IATSE represents technicians, artisans and craftspersons in the entertainment industry.

The report first surfaced late Wednesday morning in a tweet from Production Weekly, which dubs itself the “entertainment industry’s leading source for tracking upcoming film and TV production data.”

Initial reports said the shoot would be for 15 weeks in Calgary beginning on or about June 25, but Petti said no timing has been confirmed.

According to The Associated Press, Reitman will take over the franchise from his father, Ivan Reitman. The latter directed and produced the original 1984 Ghostbusters and its 1989 sequel.

The new Ghostbusters will be the next chapter in the original story and will not be connected to Paul Feig’s 2016 all-female reboot. It is not clear if original stars Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson or Bill Murray would return.

“I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a six-year-old visiting the set,” the younger Reitman told Entertainment Weekly. “I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans.”

When contacted by Postmedia, Calgary’s commissioner of film, television and creative industries Luke Azevedo could not confirm the report, saying “there is no confirmation of this film in the Calgary area.”
