Kartik Aryan and Kriti Sanon get ready to play Luka Chuppi with us.

Luka Chuppi, starring Kartik Aryan and Kriti Sanon, sees the actors play a live-in couple, with a twist -- their family believes they are married.

Producer Dinesh Vijan ropes in Cinematographer Laxman Utekar (102 Not Out, Hindi Medium, Dear Zindagi) to direct the entertainer that promises to take the live-in relationship to a new level.

Bollywood is growing wiser and seems to deal with relationships in more mature fashion now.

And so the trailer looks interesting, but we have to see how the film turns out when it releases on March 1.

Before that, Joginder Tuteja looks at how well the live-in concept has worked in Bollywood before.

Dhadak
Box office collection: Rs 74 crore

Karan Johar's Hindi version of Sairat saw a young couple -- played by Ishan Khattar and Jahnvi Kapoor -- face their share of challenges when their families violently disapprove of the match.

After they elope, the couple live together for a while before eventually getting married.

Shuddh Desi Romance
Box office collection: Rs 48 crore

Yash Raj Films backed a film which saw a live-in relationship between Sushant Singh Rajput and Parineeti Chopra.

Commitment phobia was one of the running themes of this romantic musical, which also featured Rishi Kapoor in a pivotal role.

The film was set in Jaipur and established that such relationships are not just limited to the metros of India.

Salaam Namaste
Box office collection: Rs 30 crore

One of the earliest films on live-in relationships, Salaam Namaste was set in Australia.

Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta played it cool in this vibrant film, directed by Siddharth Anand, and emerged successful at the box office.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama
Box office collection: Rs 12 crore

Director Luv Ranjan tackled modern day relationships in a brutally honest way in Pyaar Ka Punchnama and its sequel.

The film had Kartik Aryan and Nushrat Bharucha in a live-in relationship that resulted in quite a few comic moments.

While the first part was a decent success, the sequel was a superhit.

Cocktail
Box office collection: Rs 76 crore

Director Imtiaz Ali dared to experiment with Cocktail where he established a love triangle between Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty.

The trio lived in the same house, even as Saif moved from one woman to the other. Cocktail was a major commercial success.

OK Jaanu
Box office collection: Rs 24 crore

Though the film boasted of a chartbuster remix, Humma Humma, OK Jaanu could not find audiences rooting for it.

Narrating the live-in relationship of a couple, played by Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, the film wasn't engaging enough.

Katti Batti
Box office collection: Rs 27 crore

In this Nikkhil Advani film, Kangana Ranaut and Imran Khan played a live-in couple.

While it started off well, the film ran out of steam soon enough and flopped at the box office.

Befikre
Box office collection: Rs 60 crore

When Aditya Chopra returned to direction with Befikre, everyone believed he had found his replacement for Shah Rukh Khan in Ranveer Singh.

The film seemed fresh, as it saw Ranveer pair up with Vaani Kapoor, and it told a modern story, interspersed with a lot of kissing!

But none of it worked, and the film sank.
