February 21, 2019

The University of Illinois’ Gies College of Business has named Lynne McChristian and Corrie Proksa to lead its insurance and risk management programs.

McChristian has been named director of the Office of Risk Management and Insurance Research (ORMIR), Proksa and will serve as the new director of the AXIS Risk Management Academy (ARMA).

McChristian joined Gies College of Business in January after more than three years at Florida State University (FSU). There she served as executive director of the Center for Risk Management Education & Research, where she was responsible for insurance industry engagement through career fairs, mentoring and internships. She was also a faculty member teaching principles of insurance and enterprise risk management.

McChristian brings more than 25 years of insurance experience to the Office of Risk Management and Insurance Research, where she will focus on enhancing the strong existing relationship between the insurance industry and faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. ORMIR was established to respond to the needs of its corporate partners through the design and direction of research on the most critical issues faced by the insurance industry and to provide expertise on initiatives to engage students in seeking careers in insurance.

Proksa comes to Gies College of Business after spending three years as an actuarial science advisor at the University of Illinois. She takes over leadership of the AXIS Risk Management Academy, which launched in Spring 2018. The Academy is open to students from across the Illinois campus, and it provides them with professional development resources and experiences to support their interest in risk management.

The AXIS Risk Management Academy was established in collaboration with global specialty insurer and reinsurer AXIS Capital Holdings Limited. As part of the agreement, AXIS is contributing $1.5 million over the course of five years to fund the development and management of the AXIS Risk Management Academy in partnership with the ORMIR. A portion of the funding agreement supports ARMA and the ORMIR’s focus on encouraging and preparing students for careers in risk management and insurance.
