Harrison Ford’s animation debut is as a grumpy dog in Secret Life of Pets 2

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Harrison Ford has a Hollywood resume anyone would shoot first for, including as Han Solo in STAR WARS, Indiana Jones in the INDIANA JONES movies, and countless other action movies and dramas like WITNESS (earning him an Oscar nod). But, as weird as it is to imagine, the actor has never, across his whole career, ever lent his voice to an animated movie. Now that box has been checked, and in the new character teaser for THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2 we get to hear his gruff voice lent to a stoic farm dog named Rooster, so yeah, his animation debut is perfect for him.

The trailer also has the added benefit of revealing more about the plot of the sequel, which will find main puppy pals Max (Patton Oswalt, taking over for Louis C.K. for…reasons) and Duke (Eric Stonestreet) heading off to a farm up north (in a good way, in a good way!) for a little vacation. There they meet the tough, no-nonsense farm dog who suffers no fools or doggie cones, voiced by Ford. Basically, it’s what you imagine Ford to be like in real life, except here he has slightly more hair.

Ford is an obvious choice to voice a character like this – one whose primary characteristic is grumpiness – but it’s almost too obvious. Though Ford gets to choose what roles he takes, of course, I can’t help but think it would be more fun if he took one that had him stepping out of his persona for something a bit wackier. Who knows if that would work, but it would be an interesting role for Ford to take and break expectations a with. But, hey, it’s Ford voicing a big cartoon dog, so I’m here for it.
