NEW DELHI: On the lines of the Wonders of World Park, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) plans to develop a Bharat Darshan Park on six acres of land in Punjabi Bagh.
The park will represent replicas of prominent monuments and places from all over India such as Charminar from Hyderabad, Qutub Minar from Delhi and Gateway of India in Mumbai.
Besides, statues of natives of some states in traditional attires will also be presented.
“For example, to represent Assam we can install statues of people performing Bihu dance and Cheraw dance of Mizo tribes. We will also attempt to showcase their lifestyle and culture,” said a senior SDMC official. SDMC plans to use colourful lights during nights to highlight these sculptures.
“We expect to get huge footfall during weekends as it is surrounded by residential areas,” said the official.
The project was also mentioned by the leader of house, Kamaljeet Sherawat, in her budget speech on February 12.
These sculptures will also be built using scrap waste such as vehicles, fans, rods, iron sheets, nut-bolts, etc. gathering dust in municipal stores. The park is presently being used as SDMC’s nursery.
