Two suspected JeM terrorists arrested from Saharanpur
MEERUT: Two suspected terrorists linked to terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed have been arrested by anti terrorism squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday. ATS had acted after actionable intelligence input was received from a student of Deoband who had claim that suspects, under the garb of student studying at Deoband, have been carrying out terror activities.
"After inputs two suspected terrorists were caught from Saharanpur by our ATS wing.
They are linked to JeM and both are from Kashmir. Shahnawaz is from Kulgam and Aqib is from Pulwama. Two weapons and live cartridges seized," UP DGP OP Singh said.
This comes a week after at least 40 CRPF personnel where killed in a car bomb suicide attack in Pulwama. Pakistan based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed has taking responsibility of the attack.
The two arrested were identified as Shahnawaz Teli and Aaqib Ahmed Malik. Shahnawaz is a resident of kulgam in Kashmir and his claimed to be a grenade expert. "He (Shahnawaz) is an active member of Jaish-e -Mohammad and was recruiting new members for the terror outfit by luring local students," an ATS official said.
Other suspected terrorist Malik is a resident of Pulwama in Kashmir and was allegedly undercover as a student of Deoband in Saharanpur. According to ATS he was also one of the recruiters for Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Meanwhile, arrested suspects are being brought to Lucknow on transit remand where they will be further interrogated. UP police has also alerted its counterparts in Jammu and Kashmir about the development.
