Eight officials-four centre superintendents and four invigilators- have been suspended on Friday after Odia language question papers went viral on social media while the examination was underway at 2953 centres across the state.

BHUBANESWAR/CUTTACK: Eight officials-four centre superintendents and four invigilators- have been suspended on Friday after Odia language question papers went viral on social media while the examination was underway at 2953 centres across the state.
Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha, the examination conducting body, president Jahan Ara Begum said she immediately ordered a probe in the matter to know how this incident happened.
"As the circulation of question papers occurred after the examination is started, there is no question of conducting the examination again. But we will take action against the people for committing the mischief," she added.

The president said they found during the inquiry that superintendents and invigilators of four centres have been involved in the incident. Two examination centres-Karamangal high school and Gopinath high school- of Nuapada district, Bandhugaon high school in Koraput district and Sudarshan Vidyapeetha in Dhenkenal district have been pointed out for the mischief, she added.
"The board has asked the district education officers (DEOs) of the concerned districts to lodge FIR in their local police stations about the circulation of question papers in social media. After the police inquiry, the truth will come out," she added.
She said mobile phones have been completely prohibited at the examination centers. Even the invigilators were asked to submit their mobile phones before the centre superintendents. But it is unfortunate that the question papers went viral in social media, she added.

Board sources said question papers were transported to 304 nodal centres across the state and kept under the supervision of police custody and CCTV surveillance. All the question papers were dispatched to examination centers by 8.30 am on Friday under tight police security. The packets were opened in the presence of officials.
Members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) gheraoed school and mass education minister Badri Narayan Patra's official residence in Bhubaneswar protesting the circulation of question papers on social media. They had scuffled with the police while they were trying to enter the minister's house. More than 50 ABVP members were detained by the police.
A total of 5, 87,720 students had appeared for the first day of the examinations. A total of 79 students have been booked for mal practice.
Subhankar Das, a resident of CDA area in Cuttack whose son is appearing for matric examinations, said stringent action should be taken against the persons, who have made the question papers viral. "The board members should take more precautions and remain extra alert to make the examinations success," he added.
