Ginninderra teen Dylan Faram captures Cricket ACT shot

By Caden Helmers

Dylan Faram could sense the buzz around the rooms when he came off for tea.

The 18-year-old Ginninderra Tigers batsman had been here before. Off for the tea break, a maiden premier cricket century waiting for him upon his return to the middle.

"Against Queanbeyan I was pretty close, I came off for tea and then got out for 97," Faram said.

He refused to let this opportunity slip, capturing it to post his first senior ton (156 not out from 251) to steer Ginninderra to 7dec-332 in the Cricket ACT Douglas Cup against Eastlake at Kippax Oval on Saturday.

A late Michael Ninneman wicket has left Eastlake to resume at 1-6 next weekend, but this day will always be Faram's. Not bad considering he wasn't sure if he could even match it in first grade this summer.

"This was just a massive relief, to hear the cheer of the crowd, to be able to raise the bat. It was just surreal, pretty amazing," Faram said.

"Early on I actually wanted to play second grade, and then I hit 86 against Wests when I was just filling in. After that, the boys wanted me to stay up there and I had a bit of confidence after that, that I can actually play up here in first grade and do a good job.

"After that, the season has been going pretty well. This was really relieving. We were in trouble a bit early and I just got the nod to do my job and bat throughout the day.

"It’s a big opportunity for us next week to pretty much cement a spot in the finals, and hopefully another win against ANU [in the next round] would lock in a home semi-final which would be huge for us Ginninderra boys."

While Ginninderra have their sights set on a two-day title, two sides have already snuck in a dress rehearsal for the one-day John Gallop Cup decider at Phillip Oval on Sunday - and one clearly has the momentum.

Queanbeyan opener Dean Solway fired a warning shot at Weston Creek Molonglo with a superb 154 (255) to lead the visitors to 289 on day one of their Douglas Cup clash at Stirling Oval.

Creek's top order will have plenty to ponder heading into the grand final after they hobbled to stumps at 2-13 thanks to a late Vele Dukoski burst (2-2).

North Canberra-Gungahlin are in serious danger of slumping to another outright defeat after limping to the pavilion at 9-86 in pursuit of Tuggeranong Valley's 5dec-323.

Michael Barrington-Smith's classy 128 (136) steered the visitors towards a massive total before Shane Devoy (5-11) ripped through the Norths line-up to give his side a sniff of an early finish next week.

ANU have their back to the wall in a fight to avoid an outright loss after being skittled for 108 against Western District-UC at Jamison Oval.

The Owls struggled to find the answers to a Matt Condon (100 not out from 93) and Ethan Bartlett (96 from 54, having already claimed 4-33 with the ball) onslaught as Wests posted 6dec-311.
