BENGALURU:Congress president Rahul Gandhi will sound the poll bugle for the general election at a rally in Haveri in Karnataka on March 9.
The Congress president is expected to give a clarion call to defeat the BJP when he addresses a public meet in the town (in Haveri constituency) in north Karnataka. The BJP wrested Haveri, once a Congress bastion, in 2009.
“All key leaders of the party will be invited to the rally,” said KPCC chief Dinesh Gudurao on Friday after a series of meeting with party leaders and workers.
Newlyappointed Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who has been given charge of the party in eastern Uttar Pradesh, may also address a couple of rallies after Rahul’s kicks off the party’s campaign in the state.
The Congress on Friday intensified efforts to resolve issues with ally JD(S), which recently expressed unease over delay in announcement of a seat-sharing agreement for the Lok Sabha elections.
AICC general secretary KC Venugopal arrived in Bengaluru on Friday night and held talks with Congress leaders in the state amid indications that the two parties may soon arrive at a seat-sharing agreement by March 9.
